So, you’ve landed here-
My name is Arie, and I’m a 30 year old from Wisconsin. I love cooking, but what I love even more is sharing my food with others. I’m here to share vegetarian & vegan recipes, to give you ideas to use in your kitchen, and maybe make you laugh a bit.
When I think of food, I think of 2 things- comfort & smiles.
Why should you trust me?
I grew up making food. My mom still shows love by making WAY too much food at every family event and I think I inherited that trait from her. She had a big drawer stuffed full of cookbooks that I would pull out and sit with on the kitchen floor for hours at a time. (I’d stay home sick from school to read cook books and watch food network when I was like 12) Converting classic recipes to veggie versions has been one of my favorite hobbies all my life.
I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 12 years old; let me tell you- the fake meat on the market these days is SO MUCH better. Before there were decent commercial options (hello Impossible, Quorn, Beyond, ect.) I became pretty creative with the standard tofu & beans. To be honest, I still prefer those as my protein sources over meat substitutes most of the time.
I worked in restaurants for 12 years. All sorts of them too! From an adorable local cafe, a “nerd bar” with a wood fire pizza oven, a wine bar with 60 bottles on our pour list and even more cheeses available, to some dive bars. I’ve always found places that let me work both front-of-house and in the kitchen because I get bored too easily. Over the years, I learned a lot from the talented humans I worked with, the customers I served, and the ability I had to play around with ingredients that I never could have afforded on my own.
